Starting point
Germany’s rent cap gives tenants a strong right - but only if they know that their rent is too high. Checking it requires knowing the local rent index, the exemptions and the deadlines. That is exactly where it breaks down in practice: the obstacle is not the legal entitlement but access to it.
Approach
For this volunteer-run initiative we designed and built the website mietenlawclinic.de. Beyond that, we supported the team behind mietencheck.de, the application that performs the actual rent check.
Outcome
A website that makes the initiative visible and guides tenants to the check on mietencheck.de, and to advice where a case gets complex. Operation and further development stay in the initiative’s own hands.
